As of January 1st, 2019 all Cannabis and inhalable Cannabis products are required to be tested for terpenes. Terpenes are chemicals produced by many different forms of life including plants, insects, and bacteria. Plants such as pine, citrus, lavender, mint, and hops, as well as Cannabis, produce terpenes as their characteristic aroma. Both major and minor terpenes influence the aroma and interact with the endocannabinoid system in concert with cannabinoids to elicit particular effects. Major terpenes in Cannabis include pinene, limonene, linalool, terpinene, caryophyllene, and myrcene. Minor terpenes include bisabolol, camphene, carene, geraniol sabinene, and valencene.
